High Deductible Health Insurance Plans on the Rise

Many employers are pushing high deductible health insurance plans to their employees as health care costs increase. Employers like the idea as they contribute less to the total cost of the insurance. However, employees end up paying more out-of-pocket fees and premiums. Currently the number of those enrolled in high deductible insurance plans was 10 million, up from the 6.1 million in 2008. Critics say these plans are better for younger people as they don’t spend as much on health care. Whereas, those who are sick cannot go without care and will have to continually pay out of pocket fees. In order to receive the best plan, be sure to shop around, compare prices and check employer incentives.
