New changes under the health care reform law will take effect September 23, 2010. However, health insurers do not have to implement these provisions until the next annual renewal date, January 1 for most, so many will not see changes take effect until that date. Such changes taking effect include the extension of young adult’s coverage under their parent’s plan until age 26, employers cannot refuse coverage for children with preexisting conditions and cannot place limits for essential health benefits.
